This is my personal blog. Before the murder of George Floyd and the protesting that followed, I was working on a post about the first time I traveled to Charleston, SC. Well, I just don’t have it in me to post something that brought me so much joy given the recent events. In lieu of that post, I decided that this post would model the video below.
I AM A HUMAN
I am black
I am American
I am African American
I am a woman
I was born of an African American mother and father
I was raised by an African American mother
but I also know and speak to my father
I am a sister to a sister
a cousin to cousins
an aunt to a nephew
a friend to friends
I am a potential mother to the future …
I AM A HUMAN
I am college educated
I have a masters degree
I am gainfully employed (19 years, 11 months at current company)
I have worked consistently since the age of 16
I AM A HUMAN
I am dreamer
I am a life-long learner
I am a reader
sometimes a writer
I am a traveler
I am an explorer
I am an avid novice photographer
I am someone who like to experience new things even when terrified
I AM A HUMAN
I am someone who believes
children shouldn’t suffer things like cancer or abuse
neither should animals
humans should be kind to other humans
people should own their mistakes
none of us is always right
we NEED to and CAN do BETTER
I AM HUMAN
I dislike
change
crime
injustice
liars
good intentions without action
most vegetables
people unwilling to listen to others
people who lack common sense or decency
people who think they are always right despite evidence to the contrary
I fear
being a black/African American woman in America
bigotry
bugs
change
disease
dying by burning or drowning
for black/African American males in America (THEY ARE HUMAN, TOO)
germs
not knowing people’s intent
racism and racist
I love …
animals (cats & dogs)
arts & crafts
baking
cartoons
change
common sense
facts
family
friends
good food
laughing
living
music
photography
reading
reality
reason
shopping
stories (telling them and hearing them)
traveling
the truth
and many other things
freely and wholeheartedly
I believe there is more than enough resources for everyone to live comfortably
I believe that WE ARE HUMAN
I believe change is possible
I AM A HUMAN and right now, this HUMAN is tired, sad and brokenhearted
